As time went on Joey would spend many years trapping. At times he would even support his family with the money he would make from the long cold winters harvesting furs in the Hatchie Bottom.
In the early nineties after years of trapping, welding, and fabricating for a living, Joey took a job with a corporation. Trapping then became his hobby, but he always felt a call to go back to it as a career.

Joey had all but given up on his dream of being a full time trapper.
Then in 2004, a man that knew Joey trapped as a hobby called him and asked if he could help him clear his property of coyotes and beavers. Since that time he has spent every winter doing what he loves.
"Passion, and a love of nature are the only reasons to do this type work. It's too cold, wet and exhausting for any other reason!",

In 2012 with a downturn in the fur market, Joey began to brainstorm ways to continue doing what he loved. He began to make one-of-a-kind fur home decor for his friends and family.
After a few short years, people started asking where they could buy these unique treasures and Hatchie Bottom Furs was born.
Today Joey spends each winter trapping beautiful animals and turning them into one-of-a-kind creations. While making every attempt to honor and respect the tradition, animals, and nature that he is so passionate about.
